The secret to this sweet and sassy BBQ sauce is bourbon. Try it on ribs, chicken, hamburgers or steak.

  • 2 cups ketchup (Preferably Hunt's tomato ketchup)
  • 2 tbsp white vinegar
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 3/4 cup bourbon
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 tbsp dried thyme
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 1/2 tsp chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (or more to taste)
  1. Combine all ingredients in a two quart sauce pan and bring to a gentle boil on medium-high heat.
  2. Reduce the heat to low and simmer gently for 30 minutes or until it begins to thicken and the alcohol burns off.
  3. This recipe will yield about two and a half cups of sauce. Store the sauce in a large jar in the refrigerator
